ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Bridie Wolejko has been a practicing and exhibiting artist for over 20 years. Originally from Boston, she has lived in northern Worcester County for nearly a decade. Bridie’s artistic experience is steeped in painting and drawing and it wasn’t until recently that she delved head first into collage and mixed-media art. In doing so, she won the 85th Regional Exhibition of Art and Craft at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Her subsequent solo show Hypnagogia was included in WBUR’s 2022 Summer Art Guide. Her art is inspired by nature, global crisis, and folklore (to name a few!), and she incorporates both traditional and non-traditional art styles in her work through a variety of media.
Apart from the Fitchburg Art Museum, Bridie’s art has been exhibited at the Worcester Center for Crafts; FOREST13 (Arlington, MA); Gallery Once (Littleton, MA); Gallery Sitka (Shirley, MA); Gallery Marquee (Fitchburg, MA); SXSW (Austin, TX); VAYO Collage Gallery (Rochester, NY); Fivesparks (Harvard, MA); New England Botanical Garden (Boylston, MA); among other spaces.
“It is my strong belief that New England is one of the most beautiful places on earth and I want to celebrate that beauty in bold, expressionistic paintings. Taking stylistic inspiration from the impressionist master painters, I call attention to light, color, and lively brushstroke in my work. Rather than getting ‘bogged down’ in the details of a painting, I try new approaches and techniques in my work like stopping 10 minutes early and forgoing final touches. I let directional brush strokes dictate depth and movement in my paintings; enhancing natural color wherever I can. The result is an energetic and bold style designed to help viewers recall certain magical moments spent in nature.”
In addition to creating artwork on an almost daily basis, Bridie has begun teaching art through a handful of local organizations and venues. Join her mailing list to stay informed of new class offerings near you!
